Review | Sebsastian Trilliance Shampoo

I have been using this amazing shampoo for about 3 months now and have just realised I have yet to review it!

I was fortunate enough to be gifted this from French Revolver Studio a while back. I have been using it most days although I do sometimes alternate it with the KMS Free Shape shampoo.

What it does

Trilliance as its name suggests is designed to bring shine and glossiness to the hair in which it most certainly does. I have and others around me have noticed that the shampoo does polish away the dullness in the hair.

At first I was a bit skeptical about using this shampoo as I haven’t had the best experience with Sebastian shampoos in general. I have used the Hydre range and for me it was just too much for my hair, it made it feel very dense and at times oily. The Trilliance range proves itself to be a light shampoo , I normally wash my hair on alternate days and it still keeps it shiny and non greasy.

Ingredients of Trilliance Shampoo: Water/Eau, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Glycol Distearate, Dimethicone, Cocamidoproyl Bethane, Sodium Citrate, Cocamide Mea, Sodium Xylensulfonate, Frangrance/ Parfum, Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Salicylic Acid, Tetrasodium Edta, Methylparaben, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Quartz, Methylchloroisothiazolinone.

Seems like a whole bunch of jargon, but comparing it to the Hydre which I have used in the past the main thing that springs to mind is that the Trilliance contain SLS (sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate) and the Hydre contains ALS (the ammonia version). Perhaps this one switch of a key ingredient changes the product entirely for me.

Wella Brilliance vs Sebastian Trilliance

Comparing it to Wella Brilliance, the Trilliance tops it off by a notch. The shine is just that much more noticeable and the hair still remains smooth and soft. Sebastian Trilliance costs a little bit more than the Wella Brilliance but I wouldn’t be too fussed about the difference when you see the results.

Cost Factor:

At your local salon, it might cost you about $40 a pop for a shampoo, but Beauty Bay does it for about $15 AUD but be prepared to wait a few weeks for it. Strawberry Net also sells the Sebastian range for cheaper than retail as well and have the in-salon size bottles but they don’t stock the Trilliance range. In my opinion, all in all not a bad buy for a decent shampoo.

In a nut shell:

Though I was almost certain Sebastian shampoos and I don’t get along well, I was proven wrong by the Sebastian Trilliance shampoo. It produces a glossy finish which lasts for days and is light-weight. It’s a perfect shampoo for those with normal to combination hair. Beats the other shine shampoo I have used in the past such as the Wella Brilliance and it’s still affordable.

Review: Wella SP Colour Save Shampoo & Conditioner

I am an avid Wella product user. I love so many of their products. They are affordable and makes my hair feel amazing.

This range is great for those of you who frequently colour your hair particularly if you notice your hair colour washing out a few weeks after the colouring has been done. I currently have reddy/purple hair and as we all know reds and purples wash out fairly quickly this product is great to prevent colour shift.

What does it do?

  • It protects the colour from shifting and fading. Even if you do get a salon colour job, it is inevitable that hair colour will fade with time and even quicker if you are using the wrong products. The hair will go brassy and untamable if you don’t look after it well.
  • Enhance brilliance to increase shine and luminosity of the hair.
  • Conditioner also is very rich and moisturises and smooths the hair.

My opinion:

My hair is reddy purple, probably one of the hardest colours to maintain in terms of colour fading and shifting. It has been about 5 weeks since I got this done and yes the colour has faded a little bit but not significantly. The thing I love about this product is not only does it help resist colour fading but it nourishes the hair. The complementary conditioner is very rich and thick so only a small amount is needed. Both products are exquisitely scented – slightly floral. The only negative thing I can say about this is due to the richness of the conditioner I feel like it can weigh my hair down a little bit so it may not be suitable for those with very oily hair.

How does it compare to others?

Wella Professional Colour Brilliance: When I used this shampoo I had ombre brown – blonde hair so this product was really good at enhancing shine. I didn’t notice a lot of colour fading apart from the fact that my blond highlights did get a little bit brassy about 4-5 weeks after I had it dyed. This is inevitable unless you use a silver shampoo or get the blonde bits toned regularly.

Kerastase Reflection Chroma Sensitive Caressing Cleansing Balm: This is a top of the range product. It is so gentle that you can use it as a shampoo and conditioner! I only really used it to maintain my hair during the course of the hair competition (approx 2 weeks). It is a very rich product that doesn’t really foam but still does thoroughly clean the hair as well as boosting colour and shine. I don’t think either Wella Professional Colour Brilliance or SP colour save compares to this when it comes down to preserving colouring but this product is by far the priciest (~$90-100 for 300mL).

Price factor of SP Colour Save Range:

I purchased these on beautybay.com and they were around 13 USD per bottle so that is very cheap! At the hair salon expect to pay around $35-40 per item. So I would highly suggets you buy then from beautybay or strawberry net to save you some $$

Overall verdict:

If you pay to get your hair dyed, you should really look after it to preserve the colour and salon finish look. Colouring isn’t cheap (around $400 for full head foils + base + cut in Auckland anyway). So it’s a good idea to do what you can to keep the colour for as long as possible. Wella SP Colour Save is affordable and great for coloured hair.

Top Beauty Buys : Hair Care

Just bought some brand new hair products from Beauty Bay and they just arrived in the post. Have decided to go for the Wella SP Colour Save range + the repair mask this time.

Since I have had done multiple trips into the hair salon these past 2 weeks, my hair has been super well conditioned as the hair stylist use numerous treatment shots in my hair – namely the Fusio-Dose. These are mini treatment shots in a bottle which the hair stylist uses after the shampooing stage. I have many praises for these treatments which I will reveal shortly.

I also purchased a leave in product which has thermo-protection and replenishes proteins that are removed from the hair from bleaching, everyday wear and tear – Kerastase Ciment Thermique.

I’ll detailing the shampoo, conditioner, mask, treatments etc.. very soon.

My Haircare Regimen – Wella Professionals Brillance for Coloured Hair

I have highly emphasized the importance of having a good skincare regimen and the power of good products, so why should it be any different for your hair?

Most people on average would probably not splurge or spend over the average supermarket/drug store prices on hair products because there’s not enough awareness out there regarding the importance of quality ingredients in hair product. But did you know that salon hair products do not necessarily need to be that costly? And if you have a good skincare regimen why would you subject your hair to one of lesser quality?

I began as a usual supermarket shampoo user, I used Pantene, Dove, Tresemme and they were very cheap. This was until I did a bit of hair modeling, subjected my hair to colour, blow dry after blow dry, hours of straightening and curling. If I had continue to use supermarket shampoo my hair would have fried and I would probably have no hair left.

After dozens of bleaches and hair colours with my hair still being partly blonde, my hairdresser and I can say that my hair is still very healthy and strong.

My current hair regime includes The Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo + Conditioner + Hair mask.

This range of products are excellent for people with coloured hair (especially bleached). The reason I say this is because once I had my hair completely bleached and I didn’t use a silver shampoo and used the Wella SP colour save, it actually made my hair an orangey yellow colour once the toner wore off. Not a good look.

This product is very gentle on coloured hair and contains what they call ‘diamond powder’ which gives off this gorgeous shine after a wash. It is also a very light shampoo so doesn’t weigh your hair down or anything. I’ve had some iffy experiences with salon shampoo that made my hair more oily and flat.

My usual routine would be to shampoo twice. If you haven’t already noticed, when you’re at the salon they tend to shampoo twice then condition your hair. I have asked my hairdresser why this is the case and turns out the first shampoo is to get rid of any dirt and grease in your hair and only after that will your hair benefit from all the added goodies in the shampoo – whether it be volumising, sleek & shine etc.. And by doing this you effectively require less product for the job to be done. Doing this myself, I have definitely noticed that my hair doesn’t look oily even if I don’t wash it everyday and by doing the second wash my hair feels smoother, shinier, less split ends and nicer.

I also alternate the mask with the conditioner since the mask makes my hair feels a lot tamer, smoother and more hydrated.

I have also learned to avoid washing my hair everyday (despite this was quite difficult to start off with). I have been told by my hairdresser that there is no need to wash your hair everyday unless you have oily hair as this strips the natural oils and if you have coloured your hair – it’ll wreck the colour faster (I’ve had personal experience in this aspect). So I have taken on the advice and this definitely does affect the amount of hair product you use on your hair too!

Hope this review has overall helped you with your haircare regimen. And to top it off, the cost of these products are not overwhelming expensive.

Price Factor: 5/5 I bought this set at the salon (200mL shampoo, condition, mask + small hair spray) for a whopping $56 NZD. Dividing that up by 3 full sized hair products it’s only around $19 dollars a bottle. I have used these products for a good 5 months and still have over 1/3 left.

Will later review my the Sebastian range of products + the Wella SP Hydrate range that I just purchased.

Just so you would believe me, I have included a collage of the numerous hair transformations I’ve had in the past 2 years (bare in mind my hair use to be black)
